"Love me or hate me, both are in my favor. For if you love me I will always be in your heart; if you hate me I will always be in your mind." - Shakespeare
I try not to post the same material from piece to piece. The Dagger O' Hate is the twin to the Dagger O' Love (I'm super deep like that /s). It's about how hate can leave deep lasting wounds, or how our own unchecked hate can cause us to hurt those around us. I'm not trying to go out of my way to virtue signal here. Hatred is, unfortunately, a part of the human experience, and I will likely explore it more as a subject in the future. Now onto the copy pasta from the Dagger O' Love to satisfy the word count for the search engines weeeeee!

Daggers have a long history of use as symbols in art. They often represent multiple, dualistic concepts, such as life/death, safety/danger, struggle/strength, etc. In the case of the Dagger O' Hate/Love pins, I wanted to make a piece about how both love and hate can emotionally/spiritually wound the human heart, resulting in a similar longterm hurt regardless of love/hate coming from opposite and contrary energies. We can be hurt by those who love or hate us, and we are capable of causing harm out either both love or hate, and sometimes both.
I was definitely going through a duality phase when I was working on a few projects. The Drop Buddies, The Daggers, The Nug Heroes - I was on a kick about creating pin pairs. I like working on art projects in groups. It gives artists an opportunity to explore a style or subject in depth, creating links from piece-to-piece. We all get to learn something from the benefits of a successful larger commission, and that's what Machine Cloud is really all about. A commission is only a success if we both get a little bit better at our jobs.
